Some of my highlights

I have a Masters in Counselling and am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#5304) with training in the following approaches: Emotion Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Satir Model for Family Therapy, Brief Systemic Family Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Gottman Couples Therapy, Mindfulness Based Self-Compassion, Satir Trauma Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Indigenous Cultural Safety, and Core Addictions Practice.  I work in the areas of Couples and Family Counselling, General Mental Health Counselling and Substance Use Counselling.  I specialize in helping couples (improving communication, intimacy, and attachment, healing from affairs/trust breaches, conflict resolution, and improving sexual intimacy), individuals (depression, anxiety, addictions, and improving self-worth/self-compassion), families (parenting, communication and general interdynamics) and youth (general mental health and substance use issues).

I began my path to becoming a counsellor by completing a Bachelor of Arts, Psychology Major, through the Thompson Rivers University in 1999. I subsequently completed a Masters in Counselling through the University of Calgary. I completed additional professional development in the above mentioned areas.  In addition to working in private practice, I have experience as a Core Addictions Practice Instructor for the Kamloops Region, and a Motivational Interviewing Interior Health Region Community of Practice Animator. I’ve worked with various agencies including Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services, the Phoenix Centre, Interior Community Services, and Kiwanis House. With these agencies, my responsibilities have included individual, family, and group therapy, general mental health treatment, supervision of an outpatient treatment program, conducting psychosocial assessments for the justice system, and violent and sexual offender treatment.

My approach to counselling emphasizes compassionate engagement, collaboration, and confidentiality. My warm, respectful, and genuine therapeutic style creates the necessary safety and trust for your personal journey of healing and wellness. I believe that through our conversations, you will learn ways to reduce suffering and embrace your life’s potential for joy, meaning, and fulfillment.

On a more personal note, I am happily engaged in a relationship with a wonderful woman and am the proud father of two great young adults. I have an adventurous spirit and have journeyed to various countries in Europe and Africa.
